New release version 1.13: com1DFA resistance change and move to pixi

This month in AvaFrame - July 2025 edition

Major integration of NGI's MoT-Voellmy simulation tool as new com9MoTVoellmy module. Enhanced com1DFA with raster export capabilities and expanded documentation infrastructure. Read more...

This month in AvaFrame - June 2025 edition

Welcome to the June 2025 update:

As announced, we finished our report on ForestFrame 2 Report, please have a look over at zenodo (German only).

We added new tools for the com6RockAvalanche module: generating scarp and resulting DEMs based on polygons.

The deployment of releases to pypi was overhauled. It should run more stable now.

Also very exciting: we started to include code and configuration for MoT-PSA as well as MoT-Voellmy by NGI (see here ). We are looking forward to getting this to run and fully calibrated. But it will take some time….

Project report ForestFrame II

We uploaded the project report for ForestFrame II in our reports section: https://avaframe.org/reports/

This month in AvaFrame - May 2025 edition

Welcome to the May 2025 update:

This month we took part in the INAC 2025 conference, including a talk on “New Normative and Digital Instruments in Avalanche Protection” which also had AvaFrame as a topic.

One of the biggest change this month is the switch away from conda to pixi for our development environment. The documentation has been updated accordingly.

The project ForestFrame 2 is coming to an end, we are currently working on the report. You can expect some changes regarding resistance areas in future releases.

This month in AvaFrame - April 2025 edition

Welcome to the April 2025 update:

This month we released version Version 1.12

We improved documentation based on user feedback regarding com1DFA null variant and naming, and com2AB splitpoints. We added a profile plot example to documentation gallery.

For our Windows users we updated installation instructions.

Added new functionality for remeshing release thickness raster files similar to DEM remeshing.

Release Version 1.12

New release version 1.12: com1DFA improvements and release thickness raster updates

This month in AvaFrame - March 2025 edition

Welcome to the March update:

Apart from the usual bug fixes and improvements, we changed one pain-point by adding mid-run persistence (e.g., saving progress/simDF) and resume capability for multi-simulation runs of com1DFA. This allows for restarts of simulations

Regarding shapefile polygons produced by AvaFrame: these are properly closed (endpoint equals startpoint) now, both for idealized release areas and when writing shp files

On the admin side, we replaced Code Climate and Codecov with qlty.sh, which is relevant for developers only.

This month in AvaFrame - February 2025 edition

Welcome to the February update:

As you might have noticed, we released two new versions this month:

-Version 1.10

-Version 1.11

So one includes the new geotiff capabilities, while the other one is a maintenance release to update the benchmarks.

So to emphasize this: due to the changes in the IO routines, the benchmarks have changed slightly! This is mostly visible in areas on the border of the flow or really strong gradients. However, the differences are well within acceptable ranges. But don’t take it from us, please see the attached report for the differences (version 1.11).
